Season Recap

In a season that marked the integration of a new Playoff Format, the South Bay Fightin' Fish were the story of 2016 as the club relied on a group of generational young stars while mid-season acquisitions by Executive of the Year Winner Michael Tirabassi proved to be the difference maker as the club earned its first RDBL Title in Franchise History. In a race that went down to the final outs of the final Sunday, the Fightin' Fish held off the Lunatic Fringe and Danville Aristocrats en route to the trophy.
The Fightin' Fish dominated on both sides of the ball with Mike Trout and activations Mookie Betts and Kris Bryant finishing as three of the top four hitters in the Regular Season while Max Scherzer finished second in scoring on the mound. Things turned for the Fish in mid-June with the acquisition of DJ LeMahieu and David Ortiz, a move that was awarded 2016 RDBL Trade of the Year, with LeMahieu going on to win the National League Batting Title while hitting .367/.436/.497 as a member of his new club.
Though they came up short in their Division, the Maltese Falcons became the only Franchise to finish inside the money in each of the first four seasons with their Wild Card berth into the Playoffs.
2016 was expected to open a window of contention for the Fightin' Fish after failing to finish inside the money through the first three seasons of their existence. They certainly made up for that drought and look as strongly positioned as any club in league history for a repeat, aiming to be the first RDBL Franchise to win the RDBL Title for a second time.
