Season Recap

The 2017 season was the deepest race in League History as eight teams fought until the final week for Playoff spots with the Mt. Diablo Devils upending the favorite South Bay Fightin' Fish for the RDBL Regular Season Title by just 4.5 points.  The Devils rode a series of off-season trades led by the acquisitions of National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton and a resurgent Gio Gonzalez to upend the Fish from repeating as Champions.  GM Jason Watson's off-season and in-season work earned him his second Executive of the Year Award.

Unfortunately things didn't go as smoothly for the Devils in the RDBL Playoffs as the Mission Viejo Maulers took control almost immediately, riding a white-hot roster over the season's final five weeks to earn their first RDBL Championship.  The Maulers offense, which hit .258/.331/.437 in the Regular Season, slashed .293/.359/.507 in the RDBL Playoffs while Pitching Staff raised their level as well, posting a RDBL-best 3.02 ERA compared to their 3.71 over the first 21 weeks of the season.  While things got interesting in the final week of the season with the Burlingame Blue Ducks closing the lead to just 55.0 points, the Maulers closed strong led by Playoff MVP Jose Ramirez how set an RDBL-record for Playoffs points.

The season was defined by a new "live-ball era" as a record number of home runs were hit while pitchers posted the lowest total of points in RDBL History.  2017 also marked the fifth different RDBL Champion in five seasons.
