The release of the 2026 MLB.com Top 100 Prospects list offers a data-rich snapshot of how aggressively the Roger Dorn Baseball League has leaned into long-term roster construction. Of the 100 ranked prospects, approximately 55 are currently rostered, leaving 45 players — 45% of the list — still sitting in free agency. For a 15-team league that has been running for over a decade, that level of unclaimed elite talent is striking and suggests the next phase of roster consolidation is still ahead.

At the top of the ownership leaderboard, the San Mateo Oppo Tacos clearly separate themselves. San Mateo rosters eight Top-100 prospects, the most of any RDBL franchise, and their system is headlined by Konnor Griffin, one of the most dynamic athletes in the minors and a consensus franchise-level prospect. Griffin is complemented by high-end bats like Samuel Basallo and Walker Jenkins, giving the Tacos both elite upside and positional diversity. No team combines volume and star power quite like San Mateo.

The Lake Merced Goutfish also place eight prospects on the list, a group headlined by Sebastian Walcott, one of the highest-ceiling teenage hitters in baseball. The Goutfish system skews young and volatile, featuring multiple premium athletes such as Colt Emerson and Lazaro Montes. While fewer of their prospects project for immediate 2026 impact, Lake Merced may boast the highest long-term ceiling of any organization in the league.

The next tier includes Mission Viejo Maulers and Honolulu Hammerheads, each with six Top-100 prospects. Mission Viejo’s list is anchored by Max Clark, a potential middle-of-the-order cornerstone whose blend of polish and athleticism gives the Maulers a realistic near-term star. Honolulu, meanwhile, is headlined by Kevin McGonigle and J.J. Weatherholt, reflecting a system built on high-floor, up-the-middle talent rather than singular superstar upside. Together, these four teams account for 27 of the Top 100 prospects, more than a quarter of the entire list.

Positionally, the list reveals clear trends. Shortstops make up roughly one-third of the Top 100, far and away the most represented position, followed by outfielders. That concentration has shaped RDBL trade dynamics, as middle-infield prospects remain the league’s most flexible and liquid assets. Pitching, by contrast, is both scarcer and more concentrated, particularly among arms with realistic 2026 timelines.

That scarcity is especially evident when isolating near-term impact. Across the entire list, only 15–20 prospects project as legitimate candidates to provide meaningful MLB production in 2026, and the majority of those players are already rostered. Teams like the Meinert Hops, headlined by Andrew Painter, and Burlingame Blue Ducks, anchored by Rhett Lowder, may not lead the league in prospect volume, but they control a disproportionate share of players closest to contributing real fantasy value.

Finally, the sheer quality of the free-agent pool stands out. Among the 45 unrostered Top-100 prospects are several high-end names, including Nolan McLean, Eli Willits, Carson Benge, and Kade Anderson. That combination of quantity and caliber is rare and suggests the RDBL prospect economy is still in motion. The Top 100 is no longer just a ranking exercise — it’s a scoreboard for future leverage, and it shows exactly which franchises are positioned to shape the league over the next several seasons.

The San Mateo Oppo Tacos wasted no time upgrading their 2025 Roster as the opening of the Roger Dorn Baseball League Season was greeted by a quick deal with the Lake Merced Goutfish. The Oppo Tacos will acquire first baseman Nolan Schanuel (2/$2) and outfielder Kerry Carpenter (2/$13) from the Goutfish in exhange for right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (Minors) as well as 2025 3rd and 6th Round Picks (44th and 86th Overall).

Schanuel's profile for a first baseman is unusual, much like his batting stance. He's displayed a mastery of the strike zone early on in his big-league career, having put up an 11.2 percent walk rate, 17 percent strikeout rate and 89.5 percent zone contact rate in 2024. On the flip side, Schanuel's 25.4 percent hard-hit rate and 3.5 percent barrel rate is more befitting of a backup middle infielder. It also doesn't help that many of Schanuel's batted balls are hit in the dirt, as his 30.6 percent fly ball rate ranked 119th out of 129 qualifiers. He can still be a useful player for the Angels given his on-base ability, but it's difficult to imagine Schanuel ever becoming a 20-homer hitter without a swing adjustment.

Carpenter was affected by injury in 2024 for the second year in a row, this time missing almost three months of action with a lumbar spine stress fracture. He had collected a .914 OPS before getting hurt and didn't miss a beat after returning, putting up a .954 OPS and 10 home runs over his final 133 plate appearances before adding another homer in the playoffs. Carpenter again stood out for his quality of contact, boasting a 46.4 percent hard-hit rate and 17.7 percent barrel rate. The 27-year-old's big bugaboo is that he can't hit left-handed pitching (.408 OPS in 2024) and rarely gets the opportunity to do so. It certainly limits how much volume he's able to provide, and that's even before factoring in Carpenter's increasing injury concerns. That said, Carpenter's 149 wRC+ versus righties since the start of 2023 is the 11th highest in baseball among players with at least 500 plate appearances. When he's in the lineup, he's going to mash.

For the Goutfish, the addition adds to a bevy of rotation options for GM Ryan Atkinson to start 2025. Don't be discouraged by Pfaadt's bloated 4.71 ERA; all the estimators peg it at least a run better. He was victimized by a low 64.5 percent left on base mark. The righty improved his strikeout and walk rates last season while fixing the gopheritis plaguing him in his rookie year. Pfaadt adjusted his pitch mix, throwing more sinkers at the expense of four-seam fastballs. In 2023, his changeup generated a negative Fangraphs Pitch Value, but last year it rated as Pfaadt's second best offering, though he used it only 11.2 percent of the time. His sweeper sported the highest swinging strike rate of his repertoire. Pfaadt has demonstrated willingness to adjust, and it appears he has the arsenal to fine tune even more.

Baseball America released its Top 100 Prospect List Wednesday with St. Joseph Jokers star right-hander Roki Sasaki topping rankings following his historic signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers last week. Sasaki looks poised to make an immediate jump into the Jokers Active Roster rotation after being the first overall pick in a loaded 2023 Reserve Draft pick that saw him selected just ahead of Jackson Chourio, James Wood and Jackson Merrill.

Roman Anthony, the second overall prospect according to Baseball America, was the fourth overall selection in the 2024 reserve Draft by Maltese Falcons GM Gary Falzon.

Boston Red Sox second baseman Kristian Campbell, our top overall selection in the 2025 Mock Draft, 1.0, was ranked as the top available prospect in the RDBL at fourth overall.
