The Burlingame Blue Ducks look to have struck gold with their 7th Round selection in the 2021 Reserve Draft as right-hander Alek Manoah skyrocketed his way through the Minor Leagues before quickly emerging as a frontline starter in the big leagues for GM Ryan Walsh. The breakout season earned Manoah the 2021 Pitching Prospect of the Year Award.
Manoah quickly proved to be too much for Minor League hitters to handle, posting a 0.56 WHIP in 18.0 innings spanning three starts before receiving an April promotion to Toronto. He didn't lag far behind those numbers as a big leaguer, navigating a deep American League East while posting a 3.22 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 20 starts. He would go on to post a total of 300.0 points on the season while punching out 127 batters in 111 2/3 innings.
A sturdy 6'6" and 280 pounds, Manoah is an imposing force on the mound and looks ready to take his spot towards the top of the Burlingame Blue Ducks rotation in 2022 in hopes of improving a pitching staff that ranked last in scoring this season with a 4.26 ERA overall.
