2021 Reliever of the Year: Mark Melancon, Goutfish

The Lake Merced Goutfish had plenty of ammunition to make upgrades mid-season as they chased their first RDBL Championship, but major blow to their outfield helped land the club a major addition to the bullpen. GM Ryan Atkinson didn't waste any time following Ronald Acuña's season-ending knee injury on July 10th, striking a deal with the Mission Viejo Maulers with a headliner for 2021 RDBL Free Agent Claim of the Year Cedric Mullins heading to the Goutfish. The addition of Mark Melancon to the deal proved to be just as sweet as the closer has been named the 2021 RDBL Reliever of the Year.

Melancon led all relievers in scoring in the RDBL Regular Season, posting a 2.02 ERA and 1.12 WHP while notching 34 saves in 53 1/3 innings of work for the San Diego Padres. His 273.0 points in the Regular Season ranked right alongside strong starting pitching assets, finishing 52nd overall among all pitchers.

The Goutfish have carried over at least one reliever every season since 2015, making Melancon a strong candidate to return to the RDBL Champions in 2022 on a 2FA/$5 deal.
