A 14th place finish wasn't exactly how Idaho Taters GM Mike Friedrich expected the season to play out. While a number of things went wrong, Friedrich did nail his early season claim of right-hander Spencer Strider who looks to be a key piece of the club's plans heading into 2023. Strider's dominance on the mound earned him the 2022 RDBL Free Agent Claim of the Year Award.
Strider finished the RDBL Regular Season ranked 39th among all starting pitchers in just 16 starts while posting a 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He's taking things up to another level since the Taters were eliminated, positing three consecutive quality starts while allowing just three earned runs in 20.0 innings while punching out 32. The run was highlighted by a 16 strikeout performance against the Rockies on September 1st.
With a full season ERA of 2.69 entering his start Monday against the San Francisco Giants, Strider has his spot locked into the top of the Taters 2023 rotation with hopes that rehabbing teammate Mike Soroka can join him as a pair of $5 values for Friedrich.
Honorable Mention: OF Taylor Ward (Stacks), Eugenio Suarez ('Crats), Johnny Cueto (Taters)
