A monster night from Alamo Short Stacks second baseman Brendan Rodgers (21.0 points) kept the Maulers at bay, as the club maintained a 87.5 point lead over the charging Mission Viejo Maulers while the Maltese Falcons pushed the deficit under 200 in the race for the RDBL Regular Season Title.
Here's the latest for Thursday's action.
Alcantara Looks to Take Back RDBL Lead
Sandy Alcantara broke out for a 540.0 point season in 2021, cementing himself as one of the best values in the RDBL on the first year of his rookie deal. He has backed that up and more in 2022, posting a 2.00 ERA over 67 2/3 innings for the Lunatic Fringe and enters his Thursday start against the San Francisco Giants needing just 7.0 points to gain back the lead in pitching points in the RDBL. Alcantara has formed a lethal 1-2 punch with Tarik Skubal as the combo ranks first and second in pitcher scoring over the last 28 days for the Wild Card leading Fringe.
Ohtani vs. Cortes
The action starts early on Thursday as Falcons left-hander Nestor Cortes (1.70 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 7th in Scoring) squares off against $88 dual-threat Shohei Ohtani (3.65 ERA) of the Meinert Hops in the front-end of a doubleheader in New York.
Ducks Look to Soar Past Clovers
The Burlingame Blue Ducks have remained white-hot this week with a RDBL-leading 188.5 points in Period 9. Activation of the Year candidate Alek Manoah (vs.CHW) is on the mound Thursday as the 8th place Ducks look to jump over the 7th place Cloverdale Clovers who are without a starter today. The Ducks enter Thursday with a 50.5 point deficit for 7th.
Grapes Offense Looks to Get Hot
After posting the second highest point total in Period 8, the Grapes have come back with a league-low 85.5 points through Period 9 and are without a starting pitcher on Thursday. The pitching staff has been a culprit this week, allowing 14 earned runs and 25 hits in 21 2/3 innings. The Grapes have 10 hitters scheduled for games but George Springer remains out of the lineup with a non-COVID related illness.
