On The Lookout: Castillo, Moncada Return for Fightin' Fish

Period 6 has kicked off with 17 period of play remaining in the Roger Dorn Baseball League Regular Season. Here's the latest to keep an eye out for on Monday afternoon with two games already in the books.

Return of Castillo and Moncada for Fish

The Fightin' Fish will slot Luis Castillo (vs.MIL) and Yoan Moncada into the lineup Monday with each set for their 2022 debuts due to injury. Castillo has been out all year after dealing with shoulder soreness during spring training. He's good to go now after making three rehab starts, a stretch in which he allowed one run on seven hits in 10.1 innings while striking out 16, though he also walked eight batters. He threw 4.1 frames in his most recent rehab start, so he's likely to be good to go for a ~90 pitch outing.

Maulers Scheduled for 11 Starts

GM Chris Ferraro is loaded up with two start pitchers in Period 6 with Austin Gomber (@SF) kicking things off Monday night. Chris Flexen, Frankie Montas, Carlos Carrasco and Justin Verlander are also slotted for a pair of starts this week.

Falcons Look to Build on Dominant Morning

The Maltese Falcons are already off to an excellent start in Period 6 with 63.0 points on the board thanks to 13 1/3 innings of one-run ball from Nestor Cortes and Tyler Wells Monday morning. The Falcons will look to build on that early success as they have pulled into 5th place and stand 50.0 points behind the 4th place Mission Viejo Maulers.

Kopech Extended?

The Clovers have been quite pleased with the early returns from activation Michael Kopech who has posted a 1.17 ERA through five starts this season. While Kopech has posted scoreless outings in three of his five starts, he's yet to pitch more than 5.0 innings due in large part to 11 walks in 23.0 innings. If Kopech can improve his command, he should unlock some additional scoring power and could turn into the Clovers ace this season.

Go Time for Grapes

The Grapes rebounded over the weekend after a disastrous start to Period 5 and will look to carry that momentum into Period 6. They will rely on waiver claim Jose Quintana for 2 starts with his first coming against the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday night. The Grapes continue to seek depth in their pitching staff which has posted a league-worst 4.65 ERA entering play Monday while ranking 6th in hitting.

Syndergaard vs. Woodruff/Urias

The Lake Merced Goutfish have pushed the Alamo Short Stacks overall lead to less than 100 and will send Noah Syndergaard (vs.TB) to the mound while the Stacks have Brandon Woodruff (@CIN) and Julio Urias (@PIT) slated to start. With just five hitters remaining today, the Goutfish will hope to keep the deficit around 100 entering Tuesday with hopes to overtake the Stacks later in the week.
