On the Lookout: Friday, 4/2

We are starting a new series called On the Lookout with hopes for a quick post as many morning as possible on some of the things were on the lookout for that day in the Roger Dorn Baseball League.

From starting pitchers to Team trends, we will have you covered on which players and games to follow through that day's slate.

LHP Yusei Kikuchi (2R/$3), Devils

The underlying numbers on Kikuchi were excellent in 2020 despite a poor ERA. The lefty's stuff has taken a major step forward since his Rookie season in 2019 thanks in large part to a trip to Driveline. GM Jason Watson bought into the improvement, holding Kikuchi for 2021 and Friday's start against the Giants might be a kicking off point for a big season.

RHP Johnny Cueto (2/$1), Jokers

The Jokers will enter Friday with an 18.56 Team ERA after a disastrous Opening Day. GM Rick Steen hopes that Johnny Cueto can be part of the solution as the veteran will oppose Kikuchi tonight. The Jokers invested just $18 in their starting rotation, a group that might need an upgrade early in 2021.

LHP Jesus Luzardo (1R/$1), Clovers

The Clovers have made a habit of slow starts in recent seasons and had another one of Thursday with disappointing outings from Kyle Hendricks and Jack Flaherty. The long-anticipated activation debut of Jesus Luzardo could allow GM Chris Shelley to sleep better on Friday as the club looks to move to the left side of the standings before the weekend.

LHP John Means (2FA/$5), Hops

There was a good amount of helium in fantasy circles on left-hander John Means despite being in the vaunted AL East. The Hops bought in and retained the 2019 Waiver Claim and will see what they have in Means starting Friday morning against the Red Sox.

Jokers Offense

While the pitching staff was poor, the Jokers have a dominant offense which started out as hot as any on Opening Day. The Jokers posted a league-high 44.0 hitting points on Thursday, going 16-for-47 with four doubles and a pair of home runs while slashing .340/.407/.553. We'll be on the lookout to see if they can keep up their hot start.
