On The Lookout: Grapes Look to Regain Lead in East Bay Division

Period 19 is set to kick off with four weeks remaining in the Roger Dorn Baseball League Regular Season. The Playoffs look to be down to seven contenders as the Las Vegas Aristocrats and Cloverdale Clovers battle it out for the final Wild Card spot and enter the week separated by just 16.5 points.

Grapes Look to Regain East Bay Lead

The Asti Grape Stompers fell behind the Alamo Short Stacks on Sunday in the race for the East Bay Division crown, but GM Terry Shelley will send one of their most reliable starters to the mound Monday with hopes of jumping back ahead. Robbie Ray (1/$5) has quietly been dominant this season with a 3.04 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, posting 326.0 points to date which ranks 22nd among all starters. The Grapes have five of the Top 22 starters in baseball with Walker Buehler (1), Shohei Ohtani (12), Trevor Rogers (20) and Marcus Stroman (21) ranked right in front of Ray (22).

The RDBL team statistics don't reflects Ohtani's stats to date due to the manual input required. The club would rank 2nd overall in pitching points with his production added in.

The Grapes do get a major boost to their lineup as Ketal Marte returns from the Injured List on Tuesday. Marte has slashed 367/.414/.547 in 139 AB’s this season.

Stacks Outfield Injuries

Within the span of 48 hours last week, Bryce Harper (back), Rhys Hoskins (groin), Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) and Michael Brantley (ankle) all left their respective games early. Harper returned to the lineup but the remainder of the group are question marks at the start of a critical Period 19 with four weeks remaining in the RDBL Regular Season.

Fish Look to Get Back on Track

The Spokane Fightin' Fish coughed up over 100 points to the Grapes, Stacks and Honolulu Hammerheads in Period 18, cutting deeply into their once safe lead for 2nd place. GM Michael Tirabassi will look to get his club back on track in Period 19 and may need to hire an Accountant to do so. Tirabassi has assembled a roster with a $499 price tag that will need to play with the numbers weekly when the likes of Shane Bieber and potentially Trevor Bauer return. They will need to dance within the $325 Active Roster cap for the remainder of the season.

Goutfish Look to Chase Down Regular Season Record

The Goutfish have some favorable matchups in Period 19 with 2-start weeks set for Anthony DeSclafani, Zach Plesac and Lance McCullers as they try and chase down the Regular Season record of 7,614.0 points set by the 2019 Grapes. The Goutfish will need to average 386.25 points in the final four periods to set the mark.
