On The Lookout: Tuesday, 4/19

A 62.0 point day from the Meinert Hops and monster game from Lake Merced Goutfish slugger Yordan Alvarez highlighted Monday's action with plenty more to come on Tuesday.

Here's the latest On The Lookout:

Time is Now for Grapes

The Grapes were expected to have the league's top pitching staff as they carried over five starters from last season and added young flame-thrower Matt Brash to the group. The results thus far have been anything but strong as the group has posted a league-worst 5.33 ERA and 1.47 WHIP while ranking last in pitcher scoring at 89.0 points, 30.0 less than the next worst staff.

The Grapes will need to right the ship quickly and there's no better time than Tuesday as co-aces Walker Buehler and Robbie Ray both are scheduled to start.

Luzardo Breakout?

Luzardo was one of the storylines of Spring Training as he rebuilt his value with some eye-popping velocity while earning a return to the Clovers rotation. He carried that performance over to his 2022 debut, posting 12 strikeouts while allowing just one run in five innings against the Angels. He will look to carry that momentum forward on Tuesday in his start against the Cardinals.

Maulers/Hops Continue to Surprise

The Mission Viejo Maulers and Meinert Hops continue to score points in bunches, currently sitting in 2nd and 3rd place overall while leading their respective Divisions entering play Tuesday. The Hops will send ace Logan Webb to the mound Tuesday afternoon while the Maulers continue to inch closer to the return of superstar Ronald Acuña who could supercharge this club into a true contender.

Run It Back for Fish Pitchers

The Fightin' Fish had four starting pitchers scratched due to weather on Monday. The result is five starting pitchers being set to start on Tuesday from a group that already leads the RDBL in Pitcher scoring. All eyes will be on Alex Cobb, Gerrit Cole, Shane Bieber, Tylor Megill and Dallas Keuchel as GM Michael Tirabassi looks to distance his club from the competition.

Shake Off the Cold Starts

Several hitters are looking to shake off severe cold streaks to start the season as Carson Kelly (Taters, 1-for-22), Mike Zunino (Fringe, 1-for-21), Abraham Toro-Hernandez (Hops, 2-for-23) and Eddie Rosario (Devils, 2-for-31) try and right the ship starting Tuesday.

Jokers Send Trio to Mound

The Jokers enjoyed a hot first week that had them sitting in the top five of the RDBL Standings but have sunk to 14th. They will try and push their way back up the standings on Tuesday with Jon Gray, Kyle Gibson and Nathan Eovaldi on the mound.
