Playoff Race Tightens with 3+ Periods Remaining

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

With clubs scrambling to field a group of starting pitchers without hard pitch limits in the final periods of the 2021 season, the Roger Dorn Baseball League Playoffs have tightened a bit entering play Friday. The Lake Merced Goutfish remain in the top position, holding a 42.0 point lead over the Asti Grape Stompers with the Spokane Fightin' Fish right behind.

The Asti Grape Stompers (3.95) and Honolulu Hammerheads (3.64) are the only clubs with ERA's under 4.00 and despite the Heads strong outings, they rank last in pitching points having accumulated a RDBL-low 64 1/3 innings pitched thus far.

On the flip side, offense seems to be up across the sport as you view the Team Totals. Every RDBL club is hitting .257 or higher with the Goutfish leading the way by slashing .264/.338/.500 entering play on Saturday while the Alamo Short Stacks lead the league with 27 home runs.

Given the uncertainty around workload management coming off a shortened COVID season, the final three periods of the RDBL Playoffs should be quite interesting to follow with depth of starters possibly being the difference maker in which club is crowned League Champions.
