Rule Changes for 2022 RDBL Season

The Roger Dorn Baseball League Commissioner's Office was pleased to crown the seventh different League Champion in eight seasons after the league's inaugural season in 2013. The Lake Merced Goutfish posted a banner season capped off by both Regular Season and Playoff Titles, joining the 2016 Spokane Fightin' Fish as the only clubs to accomplish both in the same season.

As we strive to continue a strong level of competition and balanced Rule Book, we are set to announce the following minor tweaks for the 2022 Baseball Season.

In-Season Prospect Activation Date Push Back Two Periods

The In-Season Activation date has historically taken place at the beginning of the 7th Period for prospects not activated on Opening Day. Beginning in 2022, the RDBL will push that in-season activation date back to the beginning of Period 9.

We will continue to maintain the "Fernando Tatis, Jr. Rule", allowing players promoted after Opening Day a 48 window to be activated by their RDBL General Manager.

Trades Frozen from Keeper Roster Deadline Until Completion of Period 1

Sparked by the Draft Day activity of the Mission Viejo Maulers in 2021, the league has added restrictions to trades from the annual Keeper Deadline (one week prior to Draft Day) through the conclusion of Period 1. In short, Franchises will be held to play with the team they drafted for the first period of the season and can then commence trades.

Off-Season Rosters Capped at 40 Players - Deadline 12/1 Annually

Historically, RDBL Rosters were not capped for the off-season but will be starting this off-season. Teams must trim their total rosters down to 40 players by December 1st each season.

RDBL Transactions Between Teams Frozen Until February 1st

In an effort to condense the RDBL Hot Stove season, all Roger Dorn Baseball League transactions between teams will be frozen until February 1st annually. Teams can continue to negotiate deals but the league will not announce any transactions between teams until February 1st. Players can be cut during this period.

MLB Reserve Draft Picks Eligible for 1RD/$5, 2RD/$5, 3RD/$15 Contracts

This rule was announced at the conclusion of the 2019 season but will go into effect with the 2022 Reserve Draft. All Reserve Draft picks on a big league roster will be designated with a 1RD/$5 contract and will now be eligible for a third keeper season at $15.
