While the interest by two clubs this week in Kris Bryant (2/$50) was surprising given his contract and recent performance, sources close to the Spokane Fightin' Fish indicate the third baseman is a long-shot to make the Keeper Roster. An executive with the club saw the addition as more of a lottery ticket "if he gets traded to a great hitters park like Colorado" with a "5% chance he is on the Fish to start 2021".
The Fish surrendered a 6th Round Pick for Bryant, a selection they might not even have used given the size of their Farm System.
- A year after acquiring outfielder George Springer (2/$34) from Lake Merced Goutfish, GM Mike Friedrich appears open to dealing him according to sources. The club is reportedly looking to build up the base of their roster with upper minor leaguers and draft picks.
- While there has been interest in the arms on the Lake Merced Goutfish, one of the issues in negotiations has been the contract status of several of the available arms. The Goutfish are open to discussing Lance Lynn, Jose Urquidy, Zach Plesac, Tony Gonsolin and Jose Berrios, but each are entering the final year of the deals. With several of the interested clubs in full rebuild mode or on the cusp of contending this season, finding a match that includes surrendering picks or young assets for a one year fix in the rotation has failed to lead to a deal according to multiple sources.
- The Alamo Short Stacks have had initial conversations with a few clubs on third baseman Nolan Arenado (2/$55) according to league sources. Excluding 2020, Arenado has produced four consecutive 500+ points seasons but will now call St. Louis home after being dealt from Colorado earlier this Winter. The Meinert Hops are among the rumored teams interested.
- Justin Turner (3/$24) signed a 2-year pact to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. He remains a trade candidate this Winter for the Cloverdale Clovers as rumored earlier this Winter.
