Rumor Central: Cavalli Topping Early Draft Boards for 2022 Reserve Draft

While the race for a Playoff spot remains for 8-11 teams across the Roger Dorn Baseball League, the prize of finishing 7th place appears to be right-hander Cade Cavalli with the Las Vegas Aristocrats, Cloverdale Clovers, Maltese Falcons, Mt. Diablo Devils and Lunatic Fringe all packed together in the standings between 6th and 11th.

In 11 games this season, Cavalli has split time between Wilmington and Harrisburg for the Washington Nationals, where he has totaled a 3-3 record in 62 innings pitched with 103 strikeouts, and a 2.47 ERA. A 2020 1st Rounder by the Nationals, Cavalli sat in triple digits during Sunday's Future's Game and looks the part of a potential top of the rotation starter who appears on track for a 2022 Debut.

Right-hander Jackson Jobe, the 3rd overall pick in Sunday's MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, is another name that figures to be in the mix at the top of the 2022 Reserve Draft alongside MLB draftees Colton Cowser, Brady House and Kahlil Watson.

Around the RDBL

- The Alamo Short Stacks are set to welcome back Alex Bregman and Eloy Jimenez in the next few weeks coupled with the potential Playoff activation of right-hander Logan Gilbert who as pitched well since his promotion to Seattle. That has GM Greg Shelley at least monitoring a currently soft trade market for potential upgrades to their rotation according to sources. The club has struggled with depth there for much of the season and lost Yu Darvish to the IL just before the break.

- Clubs continue to monitor the Lunatic Fringe who currently sit in 11th place in the standings with expiring deals for Cody Bellinger, Ozzie Albies and Jesse Winker. The Fringe have historically been a close trade partner of the Lake Merced Goutfish and GM Ryan Atkinson still has plenty of ammunition in their Minor League system to strike a deal.

- The Honolulu Hammerheads remain a candidate for another upgrade on offense to match their strong pitching rotation but outfielders Alex Kirrilloff and Jarren Duran don't appear to be headed anywhere. The club has ruled both players off limits as well as infielder Jazz Chisholm. All three could serve as potential internal activations for the Playoffs.

- The Asti Grape Stompers are currently leading the East Bay Division for the second consecutive year, but GM Terry Shelley is determined to not decimate the club's Farm System like they did in 2019 according to sources. That has prospects Bobby Witt, Jr., Hunter Greene, Vidal Brujan and Jordan Lawlar all off-limits in talks thus far.
