The Cloverdale Clovers currently sit just 59.0 points out of the final Wild Card spot which has GM Chris Shelley quietly monitoring the trade front according the sources close to the club.
The Clovers Farm System is flush with starting pitching options and Shelley has yet to dip into his crop of draft picks for 2022, giving the club plenty of assets to make a deal. Shelley will certainly put Adley Rutschman and Michael Kopech off limits while Edward Cabrera isn't far behind as an untouchable.
Dips in value to young arms Spencer Howard, Daniel Lynch and Jesus Luzardo (1R/$1) could lead to some interesting discussions before the August 1st Deadline, with each serving as potential buy-low options.
The club could certainly use some help in their pitching staff as they await the returns of Jack Flaherty, Sonny Gray, Huascar Ynoa and potentially Spencer Turnbull. With the Clovers looking to hold much of their Farm System intact, the Burlingame Blue Ducks could be their best match. The Ducks hold expiring contracts for Jake Odorizzi, Mike Minor, Dinelson Lamet and Matthew Boyd, though the last two are currently on the IL with arm injuries. The two could also match up on the Ducks top prize of Xander Bogaerts (3/$31).
