The Burlingame Blue Ducks have put their feelers out across the league as they seek help in their starting rotation according to sources. The current group has performed exceptionally, posting a 3.00 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, ranking 7th in the RDBL entering play Thursday before Michael Pineda fired seven scoreless. GM Ryan Walsh still isn't convinced the early performances of Mike Foltynewicz, Luke Weaver and Pineda, among others, is sustainable which has the club on the lookout for help.
The Ducks got a boost on Tuesday as right-hander Jake Odorizzi made his 2021 debut but would love to find a match for a high-end arm early in the season given the potential risk of holdover Dinelson Lamet who is expected back shortly.
According to sources, the club is willing to part with a 2021 early round selection while also willing to discuss 2019 1st overall pick Joey Bart or well-regarded third base prospect Nolan Jones.
Around the RDBL
-The Mt. Diablo Devils are considering any and all changes to their roster despite the season being less than three weeks old according to sources. GM Jason Watson has not had formal discussions but contending clubs are keeping close tabs on the Devils in the standings. The club had rough luck Thursday, losing five hitters to the postponed Phillies/Mets game.
- The Alamo Short Stacks have quietly dangled catcher/outfielder Daulton Varsho (1/$7) according to league sources. Varsho unexpectedly missed the Opening Day Roster but remains in the Diamondbacks' long-term plans while bringing a unique skillset as a catcher eligible option who should also see time in the outfield.
- The Honolulu Hammerheads have the look of a contender in 2021 and would love to find some middle infield help early. Joey Wendle has held his own thus far while Hanser Alberto has taken advantage of his opportunities at the plate, though they continue to be few and far between. The club's depth took a hit as activation Cristian Pache and Lorenzo Cain both his the IL this week. The Heads have a number of interesting trade candidates, especially behind the plate as both Tyler Stephenson and William Contreras could be in line for starting jobs and activations in 2022.
