With ten teams focused on buying and three teams looking like the toilet paper aisle at the start of the pandemic, the market for starting pitching has been quite slow. The result is an all out effort by multiple clubs to land Mt. Diablo Devils right-hander Luis Garcia (2FA/$5) who is set to start against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
GM Jason Watson was sifting through offers Monday morning as the Front Office was reportedly set to make a decision this evening on Garcia's next home.
Here's what we know about the latest offers:
- The Meinert Hops have aggressively pursued Garcia as the club is in need of rotation depth to match the top heavy rotation and overall roster. The club has shown a willingness to part with former top overall MLB draftee Henry Davis who is excelling in the Minors and could offer another elite level catching prospect for Watson to join Tyler Soderstrom and Diego Cartaya.
The Hops have expressed interest in reliever Ryan Pressley (1/$6) in addition to Garcia. GM Garrett Shelley's club ranks last in saves with just 10 on the season.
- The Lake Merced Goutfish have made multiple offers, the latest including Jose Ramirez (2/$43) in addition to Garcia. The Devils haven't shown a willingness to move Ramirez to date, as the club believes their window will remain open in 2023 with Wander Franco and Bo Bichette already activated and Riley Greene set for an Opening Day nod next season.
- The Honolulu Hammerheads appear focused on Garcia as a standalone addition, look to part with a pitching prospect while adding a 2nd Round selection late Sunday evening according to sources close to talks.
Around the RDBL
- The Hops are also looking for offense and appear interesting in outfielder Christian Yelich (1/$31) from the Asti Grape Stompers. Yelich is carrying a hot bat, ranking third in outfielder scoring over the last 28 days while slashing .330/.417/.460 over that span. The club also has expressed interest in infielder Eduardo Escobar (2FA/$5) and first baseman Nate Lowe (2FA/$5) according to sources.
- The Ducks showed a willingness to part with the league's top hitter Paul Goldschmidt (2/$35) in a creative offer to the Cloverdale Clovers for Juan Soto, Rafael Devers and Mookie Betts according to sources. While it appealed to the Clovers Front Office, GM Ryan Walsh couldn't put together a strong enough package behind Goldschmidt to secure a deal.
