Rumor Central: Heads Committed to Wild Card Chase

The Honolulu Hammerheads have the two biggest pieces remaining on the Trade Market in Paul Goldschmidt and Austin Riley, but GM Ross Horiuchi has been informing teams as of late Monday that the club is committed to competing for the final Wild Card spot and is not expected to sell according to sources.

Goldschmidt is in the midst of another stellar season, slashing .284/.369/.475 with 15 home runs and ranks fourth in first base scoring while Riley ranks eighth in third base scoring with a .266/.327/.448 line.

The Mission Viejo Maulers currently occupy the final Wild Card spot with 4,114.5 points, trailed by the Meinert Hops (4,114.5), Lunatic Fringe (4,022.5), Las Vegas Aristocrats (3,999.5) and Heads (3,934.0).

The Heads rank 10th in hitting and pitching over the last 21 days and could continue to monitor the market for pitching help as they look to overcome the losses of Michael Wacha (shoulder), Jacob deGrom (elbow) and Chris Sale (shoulder).

The RDBL Trade Deadline is set for Tuesday, 7/18 at 8:59pm.

Around the RDBL

- The Meinert Hops remain the team to watch for Burlingame Blue Ducks assets with Randy Arozarena topping the list of likely additions. After finishing as the runner-up in the Home Run Derby Monday, Arozarena's departure from Burlingame appears imminent according to sources. The outfielder ranks seventh in outfield scoring at the All-Star Break, slashing .279/.388/.467 in the final year of his $25 contract.

- Alamo Short Stacks right-hander Lance Lynn (1FA/$5) is drawing interest from multiple clubs according to sources. After a rough first half, Lynn posted a 38.0 point outing with 11 strikeouts in his final start before the break and posted a 2.52 ERA in the 2nd Half last season. Lynn is a likely big league trade candidate as well who could get some additional juice from being infused into pennant chase.

The Stacks hold 16 prospects under contract along with five selections in the first two rounds, making a swap for a pick or prospect unlikely. GM Greg Shelley has reportedly engaged in discussions that included pairing Lynn with a prospect to increase the return, or land a prospect back with a closer ETA to the big leagues.

The Mt. Diablo Devils, Cloverdale Clovers and Meinert Hops are the clubs reportedly interested.
