The Roger Dorn Baseball League standings have been as competitive as ever leading to a weekly shakeup in the Wild Card positioning as well as an ice cold Trade Market. With four periods remaining before the August 1st RDBL Trade Deadline, the market is finally starting to take shape.
The Cloverdale Clovers put feelers out Friday as the availability of stars Mookie Betts (3/$58), Rafael Devers (3R/$5) and Juan Soto (3R/$5) inched closer to reality according to sources. GM Chris Shelley lost starter Chris Bassitt to the IL Friday, another blow to an already shaky rotation. While the club intends to play things over over Period 14, the Maltese Falcons, Alamo Short Stacks and Burlingame Blue Ducks are known to already be in discussions for some combination of the trio.
The Stacks have reportedly made right-hander Dustin May (1/$1) available in talks, with the Clovers Front Office dreaming of a May, Michael Kopech, Tyler Glasnow and Miles Mikolas 2023 rotation for just $11. Shortstop Marco Luciano (Minors) and right-hander Andrew Painter (Minors) are names that have also been mentioned in talks according to those close to the negotiations.
Around the RDBL
- The Las Vegas Aristocrats appeared ready to entertain offers for the likes of Starling Marte (3/$31), Marcus Semien (3/$3) and others, but the club responded this week with a RDBL-high 297.5 points in Period 13 entering play Saturday. With Max Scherzer (3/$68) set to return Tuesday and Aaron Ashby (1D/$5) returning today, the 'Crats Front Office sees a window to pull back into the Wild Card hunt. They entered Saturday ~160 out of the final playoff spot.
- The Mt. Diablo Devils are expected to move right-hander Luis Garcia (2FA/$5) as soon as this week according to club sources. Garcia is one of the only starters currently on the market which should lead to a robust market for GM Jason Watson. Garcia holds a 3.54 ERA and 1.06 WHIP thus far in 2022 and is currently slotted for a favorable matchup against the Royals on Tuesday.
The Meinert Hops are expected to be serious bidders as the club has cemented itself as a serious contender this season. The Hops would reportedly be looking to add some offensive weapons to a deal with the Devils as Brandon Belt (2/$3), Justin Turner (2/$16) or Avisail Garcia (2/$9) could be minor additions to a potential deal.
The Lake Merced Goutfish have also had interest in recent days in Garcia.
- The Devils haven't changed their mindset on retaining Jose Ramirez (1/$47) and Bryce Harper (1/$62) according to sources. While Harper's market is gone following his injury, Ramirez was reportedly the focus of a monster offer by the Cloverdale Clovers within the last two weeks that Watson seriously considered. The package was led by Tyler Glasnow (1/$2) and a bevy of prospects and picks, but wasn't enough for the Devils to pull the trigger.
