Rumor Central: With Springer Gone, is Story Next?

The Idaho Taters parted ways with George Springer Friday night, despite being under contract through 2022. That has Front Offices around the league pondering their next move and if it includes star shortstop Trevor Story (2/$38).

Story is entering his final year under contract with the Rockies, when he’ll try to follow up on a stellar three-year run in which he batted .292/.355/.554 (124 wRC+) with 83 home runs and 65 stolen bases in 1,571 plate appearances. Given Colorado's recent run, it's hard to imagine Story returning to the Rockies so RDBL clubs might try and bake in the loss of Coors Field factor for 2022 into potential offers.

If Story does become available, count on the Spokane Fightin' Fish to be among the first to make a run at him. The Fish reportedly tried to pry Francisco Lindor (2/$43) away from the Stacks in recent weeks according to sources, but were unwilling to part with right-hander Luis Castillo (2/$10).

If the package for George Springer is any indication, the Taters could line up nice with the Fish as Chris Paddack (2/$14), Brandon Marsh (Minors) and Clint Frazier (Minors) could all be solid pieces to build from. Like any GM would, Friedrich would likely start the conversations around the availability of stud prospect Julio Rodriguez (Minors) who might get the deal done by himself.

Around the RDBL

- The Taters trimmed their Keeper Roster options on Sunday, cutting Ryan Braun, Paul Goldschmidt and Daniel Vogelbach.

- The Mission Viejo Maulers have reportedly been making a run at Alamo Short Stacks prospect Jasson Dominguez. The Stacks haven't shown interest in moving the talented outfielder, but talks have "progressed up a notch" according to sources.
