State Farm Weekly Recap: Period 1

It's hard to believe that we are already a period into the 2022 Season but the highs and lows of the Roger Dorn Baseball season are certainly alive and well. Several teams took their lumps on the mound this week as offense was plentiful in the big leagues.

The Spokane Fightin' Fish top the standings overall and in the Masters Division while the Lake Merced Goutfish and Meinert Hops are pacing the remaining two divisions.

Team of the Week: Spokane Fightin' Fish

The Fightin' Fish are on fire on both sides of the ball, leading the RDBL in hitting with a .318/.394/.529 line with 138.0 hitting points while also pacing the league in pitching with a 3.09 ERA and a league-best 0.84 WHIP in 32.0 innings. The result is a 39.5 point lead over the second place Lake Merced Goutfish.

Hitter of the Week: OF Steven Kwan (Fightin' Fish)

8-10, 10 AB, 2 2B, 4 R, 3 BB, HP, 27.0 Points

A Reserve Draft pick, Kwan has been one of the biggest storylines in baseball, tallying an astonishing eight hits, including a surreal five-hit effort on Sunday afternoon, through three games to open the regular season. He's also walked three times and hasn't struck out across 14 plate appearances. It's extremely early, but the contact-oriented 24-year-old rookie outfielder has been tearing the cover off the ball and doesn't look like he's going anywhere.

Pitcher of the Week: LHP Sean Manaea (Goutfish)

7 INN, BBI, 7 K, W, 41.0 Points

Manaea got the win in Friday's 3-0 triumph over Arizona, spinning seven no-hit innings while allowing no runs with one walk and seven strikeouts. Manaea was nearly flawless Friday, with a Daulton Varsho second-inning walk being the only knock on his ledger. Additionally, the lefty was efficient in requiring just 88 pitches, 66 for strikes, to navigate 21 outs. His $17 contract might turn out to be a steal for GM Ryan Atkinson.

Life Insurance Player of the Week: Stacks Pitching

The most expensive bullpen in the RDBL posted -28.0 points while 2021 co-aces Brandon Woodruff and Julio Urias posted -38.0 points combined. The results is -29.0 overall pitching points for 2022 for the Stacks and they look to right the ship in Period 2.

Prospect of the Week: SS Kahlil Watson, Grapes

The Grapes first rounder got off to a hot start for his professional career, going 4-for-10 with a pair of home runs and a pair of doubles.
