State Farm Weekly Recap: Period 4

Scoring was up significantly in Period 4 as nine teams eclipsed the 300 point mark including the Asti Grape Stompers and Idaho Taters who spent time in last place at various points over the last seven days.

The Alamo Short Stacks held onto the top spot in the RDBL Standings for the third straight period but are feeling the pressure from the Spokane Fightin' Fish who are getting to full strength on offense following a series of injuries.

Team of the Week: Alamo Short Stacks, 369.0 Pts

86-303, 303 AB, 20 2B, 3B, 10 HR, 46 RBI, 41 R, 3 SB, 19 BB, 3 HP, 3 SF

46 INN, 28 HA, 15 BBI, 47 K, 11 ER, 4 W, L, 4 S

The Alamo Short Stacks topped the RDBL in scoring for the third consecutive period with 369.0 points in Period 4. Rough starts from Alex Wood and Brandon Woodruff didn't sidetrack the rotation as Logan Gilbert continued his hot start with 47.0 points in two starts and ranks as the second highest scoring pitcher in the RDBL entering Period 5.

Hitter of the Week: Taylor Ward, Stacks, 43.5 Pts

13-29, 29 AB, 2 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 10 R, 2 BB

With Trent Grisham and Jarred Kelenic scuffling, the Stacks hit the Waiver Wire for some help in the outfield and hit a goldmine with Ward. The outfielder paced all hitters in Period 4 with 43.5 points and already ranks 10th in hitter scoring overall despite having 20+ fewer at-bats than those above him.

Pitcher of the Week: Walker Buehler, Grapes, 63.0 Pts

14 INN, 9 HA, BBI, 15 K, 2 W, 2 HB

The Grapes showed some serious signs of life in Period 4, totaling 350.5 points with Buehler leading the way with 63.0 in a pair of scoreless outings. He lowered his ERA to 2.12 through five appearances as the Grapes rotation has stabilized into the force it was expected to be entering the season.

Prospect of the Week: OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, Grapes

Regarded as more of a glove-first prospect, Crow-Armstrong has done everything he can to shake that label early in 2022. Over the last 10 days, the outfielder is 19-for-42 at Single-A with four walks, three doubles and a home run.

Life Insurance Player of the Week: Franmil Reyes, Grapes, -7.5 Pts

It's been a rough start to 2022 for Franmil Reyes who went 1-for-27 in Period 4 with an eye-popping 17 strikeouts. He is hitting .139 on the season with just 4.0 points in 79 at-bats.
