State Farm Weekly Recap: Period 5

Period 5 was one to remember as the Mission Viejo Maulers set a high mark for a day with 140.5 points while the Lake Merced Goutfish posted a season-best 372.5 points in a period. The overall race continues to be incredibly tight with 5th through 9th separated by just 50.5 points while the Las Vegas Aristocrats and Mt. Diablo Devils are trending up behind that group.

Team of the Week: Lake Merced Goutfish, 372.5 Pts.

79-291, 291 AB, 14 2B, 3B, 14 HR, 41 RBI, 46 R, 7 SB, 37 BB, 5 CS, 3 HP, 3 SF

59 INN, 52 HA, 16 BBI, 60 K, 20 ER, 5 W, 3 L, 2 S, 3 HB

A steady contribution across the offense and 54.0 points from breakout pitcher Dylan Cease has the Lake Merced Goutfish flying high. GM Ryan Atkinson's squad entering Period 6 in 2nd place as they continue to hold down the fort until the return of superstar Fernando Tatis Jr.

Hitter of the Week: Manny Machado, Stacks, 42.0 Pts.

9-21, 21 AB, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 2 SB, 5 BB

While Devils outfielder Manuel Margot paced all hitters with an unexpected 42.0 points, he was unfortunately on the bench for GM Jason Watson's club pushing the award to Manny Machado who went 9-for-21 with three home runs in Period 5. Machado leads all hitters in scoring with 130.0 points while slashing .385/.460/.642 on the season.

Pitcher of the Week: Jake Odorizzi, Aristocrats, 57.0 Pts.

11.2 INN, 5 HA, 3 BBI, 8 K, 2 W

While the top of the Aristocrats rotation has received all of the attention, Jake Odorizzi is doing more than his part on the backend. The right-hander worked 11 2/3 of scoreless innings in Period 5 in a pair of wins while totalling a league-high 57.0 points.

Prospect of the Week: RHP George Kirby, Goutfish

A struggling Mariners club turned to pitching prospect George Kirby on Sunday afternoon and the performance by the Goutfish right-hander looks like it will be the first of many bright spots in his young career. Kirby dominated through six scoreless innings, punching out seven against zero walks and looks poised to hold down a stable spot in the rotation the remainder of 2022 making him a likely playoff activation candidate for Atkinson.

Life Insurance Player of the Week: Dylan Bundy, Heads, -38.0 Pts.

It was a forgettable outing for an early season surprise as Dylan Bundy failed to get through the fourth inning, allowing 11 hits and eight earned runs to the Baltimore Orioles in Period 5 for a debilitating -38.0 points.
