A long week filled with baseball, swimming and colds left the RDBL coverage a bit lackluster over the past week but we are back with the weekly State Farm Recap for Period 6. We continued to see some separation, though only the St. Joseph Jokers currently sit more than 237.5 points out of the Playoffs which should continue to keep the Trade Market quiet.
Team of the Week: Lunatic Fringe, 334.0 Pts.
61-271, 271 AB, 12 2B, 3B, 6 HR, 36 RBI, 37 R, 5 SB, 31 BB, CS, HP, 4 SF
57.1 INN, 39 HA, 19 BBI, 47 K, 13 ER, 3 W, 2 L, 2 S, HB
The Fringe have worked around a number of injuries this season and enter Period 7 in 5th place thanks to a league-high 334.0 points over the last seven days. GM Tony Guglielmi's crew was led by Auction grab Tarik Skubal who posted 61.0 points while punching out 16 in 13 scoreless innings. The offense had a balanced attack with JD Martinez, Tommy Pham and DJ LeMahieu all eclipsing 20 points.
Pitcher of the Week: Nestor Cortes, Falcons, 76.0 Points
15.1 INN, 4 HA, 4 BBI, 18 K, ER, W
Cortes carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning of his first start of Period 6 and followed it up with another strong outing over the weekend. He currently holds a 1.35 ERA and 0.85 WHIP while ranking fourth in pitcher scoring entering Period 7 with 159.0 points. The Asti Grape Stompers are certainly kicking themselves over the decision to let Cortes walk from his $5 option, electing to retain Trevor Rogers (52.0 Pts, 4.45 ERA) and Luis Severino (52.0 Pts, 4.08 ERA) instead.
Hitter of the Week: Bryce Harper, Devils, 55.0 Pts.
14-23, 23 AB, 6 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 3 SB, 4 BB, SF
The Devils have started the engine and appear ready to hit the gas as they have cobbled together a string of strong weeks with Bryce Harper's ridiculous 55.0 point performance in Period 6 pushing them into Wild Card contention. Harper collected 14 hits with three home runs while walking four times while not playing Sunday. He is now slashing .305/.361/.634 and despite a partially torn UCL that might limit him to DH duties for the foreseeable future, Harper looks every bit worth the $62 investment he received on Draft Day.
Prospect of the Week: Reid Detmers, Ducks
When you throw a no-hitter in the big leagues, it's hard for anyone to outshine you in prospect circles as Reid Detmers continued to excel in his first full big league season. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 3.77 with an elite 0.84 WHIP over 31.0 innings, allowing just 18 hits this season.
Life Insurance Player of the Week: Marcus Semien, Crats, -8.0 Pts.
1-24, 24 AB, 2B, R
The 'Crats continue to sit at the bottom of the hitting standings with league-low marks in average (.223), on-base percentage (.291) and slugging (.339). One of the main culprits is Marcus Semien who went 1-for-24 in Period 6 and is slashing just .157/.216/.213 in the season in 127 at-bats.
