The Lake Merced Goutfish wasted little time following the knee injury to Franchise cornerstone Ronald Acuña, Jr. GM Ryan Atkinson quickly hit the phone lines, landing a deal with the Mission Viejo Maulers that would cement the club's Regular Season and Playoff Titles while helping guide the club to the league's top ranked hitting and pitching units. The addition of Cedric Mullins and Mark Melancon quickly covered up the warts injuries provided, making the duo the impact addition of the 2021 season while the addition of Josh Bell provided a major boost for the Playoffs.
Mullins, the eventual 2021 Roger Dorn Baseball League Claim of the Year, would slash .291/.345/.510 with eight home runs over 151 RDBL Regular Season at-bats for the Goutfish while Melancon would continue his torrid pace on the mound with a 1.98 ERA and seven saves over 13 appearances.
Mullins finished the Regular Season with 414.5 points, the second most among hitters in the RDBL while filling up the stat sheet with 24 home runs, 30 doubles, four triples and 24 steals. He'll remain under contract for the Goutfish for one additional season at just $5.
Bell would hit a middling .232/.294/.485 to finish off the RDBL Regular Season for the Goutfish but turned it up to a brand new level when the Playoffs started. The slugging first baseman would go on to lead the Goutfish in points, slashing .298/.441/.474 with a MLB-high 29 walks. His 110.5 points in the Playoffs ranked fourth overall. Atkinson will hold a pair of $27 on Bell through 2023.
