TRADE: Stacks Wave White Flag in Blockbuster Deal with Taters

Updated: Jul 6, 2023

Expected to be a contender in 2023 following their first RDBL Championship, the Alamo Short Stacks early season struggles and injuries have forced GM Greg Shelley to wave the white flag Saturday night in a blockbuster deal with the Idaho Taters.

The Taters will acquire first baseman Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. (3R/$5), catcher Will Smith (2/$30) and pitchers Clayton Kershaw (1/$23), Julio Urias (3R/$5) and Justin Steele (1D/$5). In return, the Stacks will acquire injured big leagues Gavin Lux (1D/$5) and Logan O'Hoppe (1/$6), prospects Marcelo Mayer (Minors), Evan Carter (Minors) and Junior Caminero (Minors) as well as a 2024 2nd Round Pick.

The Taters entered Saturday in 6th Place as they look to earn their first Playoff berth in Franchise History.

For the Stacks, the club adds a pair of expected Keepers to build around Corbin Carroll, Josh Lowe, Miguel Vargas, Logan Gilbert, James Outman and Jeff McNeil for 2024 with all under contract for $7 or less.

In ESPN's updated prospect rankings at the end of May, Mayer, Carter and Caminero ranked 3rd, 11th and 21st overall according to Kiley McDaniel.

More to come on this developing story.
